The SAE HSRB model was developed as a tool to assist in the performance analysis of the SAE AE-9B token passing High Speed Ring Bus (HSRB) protocol design and to aid in establishing the most efficient HSRB implementation configuration for a given system. Through the use of the HSRB model, a variety of design parameters can be varied and their effects measured in terms of the primary performance metrics; latency and throughput efficiency. Latency can be monitored for any one message or group of messages within the scenario. Throughput is presented as a time-line profile representing message traffic on the bus and a time-averaged throughput efficiency computed over the entire scenario. This paper provides a description of the SAE HSRB model capabilities and discusses results of the AE-9B bus design performance analysis used to validate the operations of the model.
