This specification covers an aircraft-quality, low-alloy steel in the form of bars, forgings, mechanical tubing, and forging stock. AMS6539A results from a Five-Year Review and update of this specification that revises composition analytical methods (3.1), grain size requirement (3.3.2), adds strain rate control for tensile testing (3.3.3.1), and revises quality (3.4), adds no unauthorized exceptions (3.6) and revises testing (4.2), reporting (4.4) and identification (5.2.1).
