This paper examines elastomer modified polypropylene, EMP, as an alternative to polyamide polymers for automotive conduit tubing. Polyamide tubing becomes brittle under hot dry conditions. Test data shows that EMP properties are not effected by moisture content. Heat aging data suggest a temperature index for EMP comparable to published values for polyamide. Physical test results, including tests on conduit tubing, compare the property balance of EMP to two polyamides. A performance analysis shows EMP to be a better material than polyamide for automotive tubing.
