Airport access systems are defined in four categories: distribution within airports; circulation within airport complexes and environs; access to the airport complex from remote points in the urban area; and regional high speed systems. The concept of airport access, and difficulties associated with special purpose solutions outside the general urban transportation problem are addressed. Systems that are available, or are under development, for each category are discussed, and the status of development of more advanced systems is described. Some of the systems reported include moving walks, high speed moving walks, loops, shuttles, remote parking links, special purpose access links, and high speed regional systems.
