The material presented is a brief survey of what injection molding is, when and how to use it to produce or to obtain a needed part, its economics, its capabilities and limitations, its present status and future potential. The future of injection molding appears to be bright. In 1979, approximately 18 billion pounds of thermoplastics were injection molded in the United States and statistical forecasters focused on the general plastics industry are projecting near term annual increases of 10% to 15% per year.
