A new cornering time estimation method is proposed. This method is based on the assumption that the driver, who tries to drive the fastest around a corner, uses maximum friction force all the time. It can be applied to complex vehicle models containing transient dynamics. The benchmark operation simulations were conducted using bump disturbances, and a six degree-of-freedom non-linear vehicle model was applied. The cornering time was calculated for various vehicle parameter configurations including various centers of gravity, suspensions, and aerodynamics with or without bump disturbances. Besides, the optimal suspension design parameters were provided.
