The development phase of the Hermes EVA (Extra Vehicular Activity) Space Suit Glove began with a review of EVA Glove literature and a parallel study of hand biomechanics. The glove had three principal layers; Bladder, Restraint and Thermal Micrometeoroid Protection, (TMP).Range of motion, strength, tactile perception, dexterity, fatigue and comfort were assessed through the test programme. The testing revealed a decrease in performance.Thermal contact testing was performed with the glove interfaced to a US Shuttle EMU (Extravehicular Mobility Unit). Further evaluation was performed with the glove interfaced to a Soviet Orlan DMA suit. The testing identified a number of glove improvements.
