Ports are facing challenges with increasing cargo volumes and vessel sizes that require a constant focus on innovation. While some aspects of port operations remain traditional and dependent on manual and paper-based processes, a digital approach must be adopted to ensure competitiveness. This paper explores the evolution of the maritime industry, emphasizing the shift to digital technologies encompassing shipping and port operations. Special attention is given to smart port technologies that bring innovation to routine operations and improve the customer experience. The article examines current port infrastructure requirements and describes how progressive ports are adopting smart port technologies to optimize operations and enable more efficient interactions between participants in the logistics chain. The focus is on platforms that bring together various stakeholders and enable collaboration and coordination. A platform for coordination and cooperation in maritime logistics based on the MaritimeLogiConnect conceptual model is proposed, taking into account that such platforms provide not only optimization of operations but also create new revenue streams to facilitate business expansion. The paper emphasizes that the transition to digital transformation is key to ensure the long-term competitiveness of ports and their successful adaptation to the dynamically changing requirements of the modern maritime industry.
