The high-speed maglev (HSM) transportation system enables non-contact support, guidance, and propulsion through electromagnetic forces, making the unique merit to bridge the speed gap between high-speed rail and aviation. However, the Shanghai HSM Demonstration Line system is confronted with ageing and performance degradation. Therefore, according to the technological advancements of HSM in China, this paper focuses on the adaptive modification of the existing demonstration line system, particularly at a perspective of operation control system (OCS). Initially, a comprehensive modification scheme for the existing system is introduced. Among that, integrating the new 600 km/h vehicle system into the existing operational framework is critical, while ensuring safety and reliability. Then, the OCS is critically analyzed, expounding its architecture and functional tasks. The adaptability issues between the novel vehicle and the OCS of Shanghai system are discussed, particularly concerning the interfaces and communications. Eventually, to expect a long-term stable operation, a future perspective for upgrading the existing system is discussed.
