In the last years, the use of unmannedSurveillance aerial vehicles (UAVs) has become particularly relevant in multiple sectors, including search and rescue (SAR)SAR missions, due to their flexibility, precision, speed, and operation range. These systems can dramatically enhance the survival chances of disaster victims while safeguarding and protecting the integrity of rescue teams. UAVs can address these challenges by accessing remotely hazardous areas, performing complex operations, and providing real-time monitoring and environment modeling capabilities. This chapter aims to provide readers with the current state-of-the-art technologies that can be integrated within UAVs to enhance the effectiveness and security of SARSAR operations.
