Abstract A grid-connected PV generator employing three-phase voltage source converter (VSC) controlled using model predictive direct power control (MPDPC) is presented in this paper. The system description of PV generator is explained and its control is thoroughly discussed. Then, the steady-state characteristics of the system is verified using MATLAB Simulink to confirm the practicality of controlling grid-connected PV generator using MPDPC. Maximum power is extracted from the PV array using maximum power point tracking algorithm while the grid compensates the remaining load active power that is required. Results show good power delivery to the load from PV array and the grid.
