With cities growing at a faster rate than ever, and with them transport-related emissions, it is not surprising that new urban models are being proposed. The 15-minute city (15mC) model, based on the idea that one should be able to access daily needs within a 15-minute walk or cycle, has gained popularity. However, there are still many issues to be addressed for its successful implementation. In this work, the main research needs regarding SUMPs (Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan) and planning have been identified. This was done through a collaborative process involving ERTRAC (European Road Transport Research Advisory Council) members belonging to industry, academia and decision-makers. 3 main themes have been discerned: user needs, urban design and digital services and policy and regulations. The identified highlighted research needs and issues to be considered in SUMPs regarding the 15mC are the role of PT and micromobility, street design and coexistence of modes, freight and logistics in the city of proximity, how to adapt the model to peri-urban contexts and correct communication strategies.
