The necessity and feasibility of using FE analysis for structures is well known. In general, complicated structures can be analyzed using a finer mesh on the areas that are of greates concern so that the best result can be obtained. However, in cracked bodies, significant errors cannot be avoided despite of assignment of a fine mesh, because there is a singular point at the tip of each crack. In Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics (LEFM), a singular point can be taken into account by singular elements, and it predicts the post peak behavior a quite well. It is, however, still not applicable to materials in which, plastic zones are large enough compared to crack sizes. In this study, the behavior of cemented sand is predicted using Finite element method coupled with nonlinear fracture mechanics concepts. The results showed that the fracture energy is the most dominant parameter, and they also showed that the predicted peak load is a quite high and the post peak curves move to the right as the fracture energy increases.
