It explores a range of cyber threats, while assessing their potential impacts on the security of sea-borne cargo transportation. The article suggests practical approaches, solutions, and countermeasures to ensure the cybersecurity of maritime cargo transportation. It underscores the imperative of formulating and implementing cybersecurity strategies on the levels of vessels, ports, and logistic chains. The study examines various techniques and technologies like network perimeter defense, intrusion detection systems (IDS), data encryption, and multi-factor authentication. Additionally, it underscores the significance of providing comprehensive training for both onshore staff and ship crews to establish a security-conscious culture among all participants in maritime cargo transportation. The article concludes by underscoring the value of collaboration among shipowners, cargo proprietors, port authorities, governmental agencies, and other stakeholders in crafting and executing effective cybersecurity strategies across the maritime domain and stresses the necessity of ongoing surveillance and updates of security systems to adeptly address the ever-evolving cyber threats and challenges.
