This study aims to provide insight into the safety behaviour of heavy truck drivers in the European Union. A survey of 249 truck drivers in international road transport was carried out with the goal of improving the state of safety in the transport industry in the EU. Individual truck driver behaviours that could potentially compromise the safe operation of a truck were examined. The results obtained highlight that heavy truck drivers are getting enough sleep and that any potential fatigue does not affect their regular work duties. Furthermore, drivers are consistent in logging their driving hours and the majority of them follow the speed limits. The results represent one of the important steps in the regulation of the transport industry from a safety, labour and social perspective and therefore build on the current area of research.
