Aircraft engines are the major source of noise, and their position around the wing and fuselage affect noise propagation. Most conventional aircraft have under-the-wing-nacelle (UWN) mount, but if aircraft engines are mounted under the wing, it may limit the ability to reduce the noise. Over-the-wing-nacelle (OWN) mount design offers the advantage of reducing the amount of runway required for takeoff and landing, while also preventing noise propagation from jet engines toward the ground. Because of the interference effects between a wing and a nacelle, the OWN configuration has a low aerodynamic efficiency. This configuration is assumed to produce unacceptably high drag conditions. Aerodynamic optimization has been done in this paper to improve the aerodynamic efficiency of DLR F6 by optimizing the wing and the nacelle design to make it as efficient as conventional UWN configuration. The nacelle's position over the wing is changed to obtain a high lift-to-drag ratio. The L/D ratio of the original DLR F6 is 12.93 and is optimized to increase the L/D ratio for the OWN configuration.
