Freight transportation across the European Union suffers from severe losses caused by increased cargo thefts, especially at parking stops. Inclusion of safety among the criteria considered in transportation planning processes aims at limiting the scope of those losses. Further inclusion of driver-specific criteria such as parking comfort can increase the quality of drivers’ rest, increase the work efficiency, and, in the long term, reduce the turnover rate. In this paper, a multicriteria optimization problem is formulated in order to reconcile the multiple opposing facets of freight parking planning. The problems is to select, from a predetermined set, parking spots along a route while ensuring that working hours regulations are satisfied. The problem is solved with the use of a Branch and Bound approach which is tested empirically for various parking options.
