A rapid geometric modeling and performance analysis approach for hypersonic airplane at conceptual design stage is studied on. The fast geometric configuration modeling, aerodynamic parameters analysis as well as flight performance estimation is combined and integrated, that is the key part of conceptual design. Firstly, OpenVSP, an open-source modularization modeling software, is used to establish the model of geometric configuration. Then, based on a finite volume Euler method on adaptive Cartesian grids, the software CartFast is applied to analyze the aerodynamic parameters in all speed range. The STL geometry file exported by OpenVSP can be directly loaded into CartFast, and the automatic grid generation and rapid flow simulation could be performed with high robustness through this method. Furthermore, the typical flight performance relevant to level flight, climb, acceleration and circle is analyzed by thrust method. The simulation is performed via MATLAB software. Finally, a hypersonic airplane similar to the first stage of “Saenger” vehicle system is taken as an example for simulation. The aerodynamic parameters and flight performance parameters are rapidly obtained according to the geometric configuration, that verifies the approach proposed in this paper. The approach can provide support for conceptual design of practical engineering vehicles.
