Recent surveys in India reveal that 1.46 Lakhs deaths occur annually due to vehicle accidents, with 30% attributed to emergency vehicles getting stuck in traffic. Data shows over 50% of heart attack cases reach hospitals late, often due to traffic delays. Current traffic signal systems operate on a static delay basis, lacking responsiveness to emergency vehicles. Manual intervention is inconsistent, leading to unnoticed emergencies. To address this, a smarter traffic management system with Arduino nano-Lora is proposed, prioritizing emergency vehicles, which consists of two sub-systems: one in the emergency vehicle and the other in the traffic console. LoRa is used as long-range, low-power, and secure transmission that connects these sub-systems. When emergency vehicle is at a distance range between 600–800 m, the driver activates communication by pressing a button. The project acknowledges that critical time lost in traffic contributes to patient deaths during medical emergencies. By offering the highest priority to emergency vehicles, it aims to significantly reduce transport delays, ultimately saving lives. This innovative system addresses the shortcomings of existing traffic signaling, providing a solution to the pressing issue of delayed emergency responses on Indian roads.
