This paper outlines the development of a Variable Yaw Constraint Suspension System (VYCSS) for self-steering bogies. Using a simplified bogie model, that is two wheelsets that are connected by a shear (cross anchors) and a yaw (longitudinal springs) constraint, the basic concept of the Variable Yaw Constraint (VYC) was developed and simulated. The model was then expanded to a full vehicle model, giving similar results. The final proof was the successful prototype testing.
