A power factor corrective filter and an extinction angle control system for regenerative braking is described. These improve the power factor and reduce the psophometric disturbing current of AC electric rolling stock. The power factor corrective filter is applied to locomotives of 3 MW continuous rating.A power factor of greater than 0.9 and a psophometric disturbing current of less than 7.0 A were obtained at the continuous rating.
