One of the most critical points in an electronic injection system is the control of the current in the solenoid. For this reason two ICs have been developed which control the injector solenoid current at two levels. Because it requires no external components, the L483 injector driver is particularly suitable for multipoint injection systems where the current to be controlled is relatively low and the number of components required for each injector must be minimized. In contrast, the L583 injector controller uses external darlington drivers so that it can handle higher currents, particularly useful in singlepoint systems. The current is controlled by switching techniques, reducing dissipation. This device is therefore suitable also for multipoint systems where efficiency is an important consideration. Both of these ICs offer improved performance, reliability and a compactness.
