The chosen concept of the 5 kW EURECA solar array presents a solution for low earth orbit missions with the requirement on atomic oxygen protection and low cycle fatigue resistivity. Based on the initiated parallel development and qualification of gold plated Ag-interconnectors and silvered molybdenum interconnectors scheduled to be finished in May 1986, the EURECA solar array can be manufactured with superior technique resistant against up to 60.000 thermal cycles in LEO environment. The chosen design can also easily be adapted for different power and voltage demands without affecting the overall qualification status. A further decrease of mass/power-ratio by 13.5 % in the future by using 10 micrometers coverglasses and 100 micrometers BSFR cells is possible, if required from overall system point of view.
