To develop simple and accurate performance equations of a linear induction motor (LIM), it is approached the essence of the space harmonic technique, which is suitable for numerical calculation. The resultant analytic method can make a substantial abbreviation in the calculation procedure without decreasing the accuracy, compared with the conventional space harmonic technique. The simplified two-dimensional analysis can take directly into account of the end effect, skin effect and primary winding arrangement. Experimental verification of the theory is included. The results of the proposed calculation for performance of LIM are almost equal to that of two-dimensional analysis using the conventional space harmonic technique. In the simplified analysis, there is no need to use the repeatable section of primary winding blocks assumed in the space harmonic analysis. The analysis give reasonable accurate predictions, because of being able to consider directly with end effect, skin effect and primary winding arrangement.
