In this paper the requirements of a high power inverter for space applications were addressed. Different topologies suitable for a stand alone inverter system were considered and a trade study was done on these different topologies. The boost-PWM approach seems to be the most promising approach for a 3 phase 250/440 V 400 Hz inverter. A control strategy was then developed for implementing the recommended boost-PWM approach. An implementation scheme for the management functions of the inverter by means of a microcontroller has also been suggested.
