The objectives of a missile simulation can be categorized as optimizing performance of a preliminary design, testing new approaches to design problems, forecasting flight test results, and studying flight test anomalies. Modelling is done such that attributes of subsystems which interact and affect overall system performance can be varied for parametric studies. Parameters that have random nature are simulated so that statistical information can be gathered. Modern missile systems like AMRAAAM require modelling of both continuous and discrete subsystems which interface with each other by way of complex timing and varius modes of operation. The added complexity of modelling both continuous analog and discrete digital subsystems in the same simulation prompted the development of the Continuous Discrete Simulation Programming System, CDSPS. The CDSPS system consists of a set of routines (primarily FORTRAN) which make up the model independent framework of a simulation. It also provides a set of programming guidelines that enforce modular structured development of the subsystems of the missile system.
