This paper describes the performance of a waterjet with gas injection from the power plant for thrust augmentation. A systems analysis is made because the performance of each subsystem is interdependent. Equations for the performance of each subsystem of the gas-augmented waterjet are presented and combined in a computer program to predict the system performance. A series of calculated results are given for three cases: (1) injectants withdrawn from the compressor, (2) injectants obtained from the combustion chamberm and (3) injectants obtained from the turbine. The results give the thrust, fuel consumption and water flow rate for gas injection compared to no gas injection as a function of the mass ratio of the gas injection rate to water flow rate through the nozzle. It is concluded that significant thrust augmentation can be achieved by gas injection. The amount of augmentation increases with higher craft velocities and less efficient intake systems.
