The dynamics of tilt proprotor aircraft in symmetric motion in airplane cruise configuration is examined with the effects of the fuselage longitudinal rigid body motion included. The reference values of the physical parameters are mainly based on those of the Bell XV-15, a tilt rotor research aircraft which is currently being developed by NASA/Army/Bell. The influence of the fuselage motion on the aeroelastic stability of the proprotor/wing system is investigated, as well as the influence of the proprotor/wing system dynamics on the stability and control characteristics of the vehicle. In addition, the effects of various feedbacks are examined with particular emphasis placed upon the feasibility of using relatively simple feedbacks to improve the dynamic stability characteristics of the proprotor/wing system. Prior to investigating the dynamics of the complete system, the dynamics of simplified models with reduced number of motion degrees of freedom is examined in some detail in order to obtain physical insights into the dynamics of the more complex system.
