The engineering community has utilized computers for several years to analyze and optimize a wide variety of design applications. But recent years have seen both the advent and remarkable proliferation of computer graphics systems being used to supplement and enhance the traditional engineering and drawing production process. This paper presents an overview of computer aided design (CAD) applications within the pipeline and pump station design industry. Specific examples of how engineers are automating their design and drawing workflow are outlined. In addition, the paper provides a synopsis of the key elements to consider to avoid potential problems with the planning and implementation of CAD systems.
