An overview of the design and implementation of a multirobot process line for the demilitarization of obsolete chemical munitions is described with emphasis on both hardware and software approaches to achieving remote autonomous operation. The process line operations are controlled and coordinated by a minicomputer which integrates information from a variety of sensors to facilitate autonomous operation in both normal and process upset conditions. Special design considerations arise from the hazardous process environment which precludes manned entry under normal operating conditions and necessitates remote operation and maintenance.
