In this paper we present the results of a joint PSA/SEP study of a composite leaf spring for possible substitution of an existing steel part in a new suspension developed by CITROEN. This leaf spring serves to dampen input loads and helps prevent roll. A new design of the spring attachment appeared necessary. Progressive studies and component testing revealed the influence of the manufacturing process on the component's behavior. The results concerning fibre undulations and leaf spring thickness control culminated in the adoption of a manufacturing process involving filament winding and pressing. It may be interesting to compare the results obtained with those given by the curved pultrusion process.
