The North Slope of Alaska contains 34.1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Alternatives for transporting this gas to the Pacific Rim Nations have been evaluated. One viable alternative involves tanker transportation of liquified natural gas (LNG) from the Beaufort Sea to the Pacific Rim Nations. This alternative includes an Arctic offshore pipeline system. The technical feasibility of this alternative has been studied. A feasible but not necessarily optimum conceptual design for the tanker transportation of LNG from the North Slope of Alaska to the Pacific Rim Nations has been completed. The conceptual design includes an Arctic offshore LNG pipeline system from a nearshore liquefaction plant and storage facility to an offshore single point mooring (SPM) terminal.
