The Great Man-made River Project is part of the infrastructure development of the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya. This article discusses the construction of the pipe and the sources of possible corrosion attack. It describes the steps taken to evaluate the integrity of the lines and the way in which the various ground conditions were classified for the purposes of corrosion control. Further, the methods of corrosion control employed for the various areas are described, and the corrosion survey techniques, criteria, and system performance results are discussed.
