Snap-loading occurs after completition of the tension cancellation time interval in the lower region of the cable. During this interval the zero-tension portion of the cable becomes slack. The suspended mass follows a track directed primarily by its own weight. After this time , the cable experiences a severe impact loading (snap-loading). During tension cancellation time intervals there can be marginal increments of tension at the location of connection with the suspended body, which can be contributed to the hydrodynamic forces on the body. Snap-loading is caused primarily by longitudinal motions, but can also occur for transverse of sufficient strength. A non-linear 2-d formulation models the dynamic system as a continious system. The dynamic equilibrium is described by the set of differential equations. Boundary conditions are imposed at both cable ends. The numerical solution is based on finite differences. The numerical calculations for a particular cable-body assembly give insight to the behavior of the dynamic system and several aspects of snap-loading.
