Extensive use of the Star Trackers for the spacecraft attitude determination is limited by the sensitivity of the on-board algorithms to false events, that can cause either the pattern recognition failure during attitude initialisation phase, or the loosing of tracking. The most recent technology improvement in the on board electronics (memory capability, CPU processing throughput), allows the integration of the existing algorithms with new software features that can solve these problems. New generations of algorithm have been studied, dedicated to increase the robustness of the star sensor to harsh environment, characterised by a great number of Single Event Upset or Persistent objects. The new algorithms collect the heritage of the existing ones, with additional features for removing the false detection or recognising the true stars among a lot of false stars, anyhow maintaining the main characteristics of the sensor in terms of FOV, accuracy, resolution.
