Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation has developed an active rotor control (ARC) controller for rotating frame actuation to reduce vibration and enhance performance. This controller is a linear frequency domain T-matrix controller that is related to the fixed-frame active vibration controller on the S-92A and UH-60M. The ARC controller was implemented on the NASA/Army/MIT Active Twist Rotor and was tested in the NASA Langley Transonic Dynamics Tunnel. The ARC controller successfully demonstrated single and multi-load vibration reduction of the 4/rev fixed-frame hub loads, using single and multiple control harmonics. At maximum speed (advance ratio 0.333) and blade loading of (CT/Sigma) = 0.068, the 4/rev hub forces (longitudinal, lateral and vertical) were simultaneously reduced by 39,57 and 63 %, respectively, and the rolling and pitching moments by 90 and 74 %, respectively. The ARC controller was also used for performance enhancement testing. 2/rev control was used to re-distribute the lift azimuthally, with manual rotor re-trim to zero flapping. In three repeated tests at 0.333 advance ratio and 0.068 blade loading (CT/Sigma), the 0/rev torque (and hence power) was reduced by approximately 1 to 2 %.
