All electromechanical steering boosters (ESB) available on the market now have a common feature: the design of the electric motor contains a worm-gear reducer that serves as a link connecting the steering tube and the electric motor. Availability of application of magnetoeleclric motors with fractional tooth windings in the ESB is shown. Results of the development of a direct-drive ESB for a passenger car are considered. Technical characteristics of the ESB and the results of the calculations of characteristics and the simulation of the magnetic system are presented. Based on the studies conducted, the world's first direct-drive electromechanical steering booster for a passenger car has been developed and its commercial production begun. The motor has a diameter of 122 mm, a length of 90 mm, a mass of 4 kg, and a diameter of the stator bore of 70 mm. This booster may compete with the booster with a mechanical reduction gear in the range of compensating torques up to 50 Nm not only in its consumer properties, but also its cost.
