The effect of casting process conditions on local mechanical properties has been investigated using simulation of a demonstrator component. Initial correlation of factors influencing the mechanical properties with numerical simulation has been carried out by comparing with the measured mechanical properties of the produced cast parts. The developed methodology will be further verified for an optimized prediction of the mechanical properties using the results of planned full scale tests. These results are the first step in an integrated simulation chain and will be used as inputs for crash simulation as shown in the parallel paper of Gese et al. 'Crashworthiness Simulation of Mg Die Casting Parts Including Local Properties from Process Simulation'.
