Modern aero engines are designed for high fuel efficiency and reliability, low emissions and reduced maintenance and manufacturing cost. The compressor of an aero engine is a key component in achieving these engine requirements featuring high stage pressure ratios and high circumferential speed. Designs like the integrated bladed rotor (IBR) are applied to meet the challenging aerodynamic and mechanical demands of modern compressors. A special precision electrochemical machining process is used to get the required geometry and smooth surfaces of 3D shaped blades. The paper presents and explains the applied Precise Electrochemical Machining process (PECM) for manufacturing nickel base IBRs and to achieve certain values of blade geometry, surface condition and process stability.
