An upgrade of the original Hohenheim Tyre Model was presented at the Landtechnik AgEng Conference 2011. The aim of the presented work was to extend and complement the field of application from an approach for the investigation of driving dynamics solely to comfort considerations. Thereby the passage of obstacles is in the focus of attention. The single point contact model was enhanced to an adaptive footprint model which is able to describe the tyre-ground interaction in greater detail. Since then the approach was optimized, advanced and an extensive validation procedure was undertaken. One of the key updates this paper deals with are tangentially placed Voigt- Kelvin elements which interact with ground surface via a stick-slip contact. Shear force distribution and tyre-obstacle interaction can be described more precisely. In the course of optimization linear interradial springs are replaced by non-linear. Validation was accomplished by comparing forces measured with a single-wheel tester during tyre-obstacle negotiation with the corresponding simulation results. A wide range of operation conditions is covered varying tyre size, tyre inflation pressure wheel load and obstacle shape.
