To increase reliability, availability and thus cost-effectiveness future guidance and control systems can take advantage of integrated inertial reference assemblies. Based on the inertial sensor functions integrated systems can evolve in two steps. An Integrated Redundant Reference System (IRRS) is described first. It integrates the functions needed for flight control and attitude/heading reference in a single box with a minimum number of skewed sensors. Extended requirements for a fully integrated system are analysed. The Inertial Reference System for Multi Function Application (IRMA) capable of meeting these requirements in a double box configuration with skewed ring laser gyros is treated. Important signal processing aspects are dealt with in some detail.
