The 50-year-old compromise in shock absorber settings between safety and comfort and loaded and empty vehicles will be less relevant in the future, thanks to electronically controlled intelligent shock absorber systems. Shock absorbers will then be able to swiftly respond to each situation over a wide range of damping force adjustments. Extensive development from digital via continuous control systems to active damping systems will be needed in the next few years before active suspension can be used as another optimisation factor. BOGE has already taken the first step.
