The RAMP project will replace all of Canada's primary and secondary surveillance radars used for air traffic control. The new primary radar is entirely solid-state including the transmitter and uses the latest digital technology for signal processing, control, and monitoring. Seven independent transmitters combine to generate the RF signal for fail soft operation. A 12-bit digital moving target detector processes both target and weather returns. The system is capable of unattended operation through a remote control and monitorig subsystem. A prototype of this new design has been operating at a test site in Norwood, Massachusetts, USA, for the last nine months. The data taken during that period illustrate the radar's features and operational performance.
