In order to develop an efficient driving system for electric vehicles (EVs), a testing system using motors has been built to simulate the driving performance of EVs. In the testing system, the conventional PID controller is applied to control the load torque when EV drives. In this paper, in order to overcome some disadvantages concerning about the conventional PID control and improve the performance, self-tuning PID-type and parallel-type methods using neural networks are proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed control methods are examined through experiments.
