Built by the Boeing Aerospace Co., the missile is subsonic and self-guided with a maximum range of about 1500 miles. It is configured with a 200-kiloton nuclear warhead, and is guided to the target by an inertial navigation system that is updated periodically by a terrain contour matching (Tercom) subsystem. The missile is usually programmed to fly at low altitudes, to avoid detection by enemy sensors, and attack fixed targets. It can achieve a 100-foot circular error of probability at its maximum range.
