The Advanced Onboard Signal Processor (AOSP) is an Air Force RADC Program sponsored by the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization as a means of reducing development costs for future large capacity onboard signal processors. By developing a single architectural approach that could be applied to many systems, the Government avoids the costly and time consuming development of a dedicated architecture, its software and testing for each individual system. AOSP is a programmable network that distributes processing tasks among Application Processors so as to achieve application independence and fault tolerant operation.
