Modern computer controlled, programmable mines use intelligent sensors to recognize potential targets by their magnetic, pressure or acoustic signatures. An advanced signal processor feeds the data to the computer, which controls the selection of the target and the detonation of the explosive. Most undersea mines take one of two forms, moored on ground. The US Navy has also developed bomb-based mines and torpedo mines.
