The Strategic Defense Initiative Organization has constructed two models for feasibility assessment. These tools address the assessment of size, weight, and power requirements of a real-time computer design using components and algorithms which are yet to be realized. This paper addresses two models and proposes a path for future efforts. The Architectural Effectiveness Model (AEM) is a time-stepped simulation of an engagement between a Strategic Defense System and a ballistic missile attack. AEM contains functional state models for computing functions which control the SDS. AEM is tailored for defining function execution and message transfer loads. Algorithm models are state transitions which enable AEM to compute data set loads for each time step from sensor and command inputs. An example of a space based tracking application is presented.
