The authors have implemented several train interval adjustment algorithms and evaluated them through simulation. It was found that: train interval adjustment algorithms often employed by train dispatchers are not always judged to be effective from the passengers' viewpoints; algorithms which aim at making train intervals equal are not always good from passengers' viewpoints; algorithms where information of passenger numbers is used often prove to be effective; and algorithms where information of future passenger flow is employed seem to be quite promising. The authors expect that train interval adjustment, considering the number of passengers, will be used in future train traffic control systems.
