To investigate the effect of the hardness of coating layers on frictional behavior, flat die and bead drawings were performed on various types of coated steel sheets used for autobody parts. The following results were obtained. With flat die drawing, the drawing resistance decreases with an increase in the hardness of the coating layer and galling tends not to occur. In contrast, with bead drawing, the harder the coating layer, the higher the drawing resistance. Further, the effects of coating layers on deep drawability were ascertained in the laboratory.
